Safeguarding children: a declaration against minimum standards Safeguarding children is one of the highest priorities for both NHS Newham and our provider arm Newham Community Health and Care Services. We are therefore committed to ensuring that the risk of physical, sexual, emotional harm or neglect to all children and young people is minimised.
The following is a declaration that we meet a set of standards for safeguarding children. The standards cover the following areas: our staff, our policies and systems, staff training, leadership and governance.
These minimum standards and a requirement to make a public declaration of our position against them were set out in a letter sent on 16 July 2009 by the NHS chief executive, David Nicholson, to all NHS trusts and primary care trusts in England.
Your Guide to Your Local Services Your Guide to Your Local Services helps you to choose the right health services for you and your family. The Guide has advice about being healthy and staying healthy. It also lists all NHS Newham’s GP practices, pharmacies, opticians and dental practices. There is information about services you can access locally and how to get involved in improving your health service locally. Hard copies of the guide will be sent to every home in Newham with the council’s publication the Newham Mag in December.
Newham PCT has adopted the new Publication Scheme for public bodies, in line with the recommendations of the Information Commissioner’s Office, with effect from 1st January 2009.
